Some apps really do feel like spyware. When a keyboard app asks for every permission imaginable, then you know something is fishy. Regarding Flash Emoji Keyboard, I could simply list all the permissions this app gains upon installation. But for your sake, I will just stick to the most important ones.
Firstly though, what is Flash Emoji Keyboard? As advertised, it is a compendium of virtual keyboards, sticker collections and language packs. Keyboards and stickers must be downloaded of course. Flash Emoji Keyboard also acts as an advertisement app. To put it plainly, you will need to watch a lot of unskippable ads.
The most surprising aspect of this app are its permission requirements. Of course, as always, it can read your accounts and your stored contacts. Sure, a keyboard needs to know who you're typing to, right? It has access to your camera. Expressing yourself can be hard, some keyboards might come with a send mugshot option. You never know. It also has access to your location, using the network and GPS service. Your cat emoji probably needs to be personalized using your current location. I don't know, maybe. There are some more permissions which granted, are not exactly dangerous, but at least bizarre, like: setting alarms or Bluetooth connection access.
- Alternate keyboard designs
- Emoticon packs
- GIF packs
- Stickers packs
- Auto-correction in different languages with word prediction
While Flash Emoji Keyboard might look like an attractive app for those who like to pimp up their mobile interface and to those who like to impress others on social media, its obvious security risks are too high even for a regular user.
